Petition to remove iclusion of Police in the 'Government of Western Australia' box
Under the "Executive" tab on the info box at the bottom of this page it states the Government being:
EXECUTIVE LEGISLATIVE JUDICIAL
Specifically, EXECUTIVE reads: Monarchy o Governor o Premier o Police o Cabinet
I have opened up this talk page to dispute the inclusion of the Police in the executive.
I think we should follow the circumstance such as the pages: Government of New South Wales, Government of South Australia or Government of the Australian Capital Territory which all have a mixture of the above but no mention of the Police.
My rationale for removing them from the Executive is that the police simply do not fit this category. The Police are just the same - in the crudest of terms - as any other Department of the State. The only difference is that under the Police Act 1892 - they are the only Department of Government which is appointed by the Governor of the State in order to serve the Crown. However, in the seperation of powers - the Police are simply an arm of the Government.
My proposal is to completely remove the Police of Western Australia from the Executive of Western Australia infobox so that it would read amended: Monarchy o Governor o Premier o Cabinet
Which is exactly how the Executive branch of Government is established. The law enforcement element is an extension of Governor, Executive and Cabinet and should not be present in the inclusion as a separate entity within Executive branch.

- Indeed, it's basically a department of the public service of the State and has no special status other than that named above. I've gone ahead and removed it. Orderinchaos 11:19, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

High Court
I am wondering why a link to the High Court of Australia is included in this template, and in most (but not all) of its interstate equivalent templates. The High Court is not a state court. It is a Federal Supreme Court established under the federal constitution, and is funded and administered solely by the federal government. It is true that it is possible to appeal from the Supreme Court to the High Court, but it is also possible, in more limited circumstances, to appeal from a state court to the Federal Court, and also possible to appeal from the state family court to the federal family court. I would therefore suggest that the link to the High Court be removed from this template. Bahnfrend (talk) 16:25, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
- Agreed. Furthermore, it is not part of the Government of Western Australia. Orderinchaos 20:48, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
